The 2026 Construction Finance Pulse Is Here: 5 Signals Shaping Job-Cost Visibility This Year

The job moves in hours. Finance often sees it in days.

Construction finance leaders aren’t being asked for “better reporting.” They’re being asked for faster answers — while projects are still in motion and outcomes can still change.

That’s the tension we set out to study.

We’re excited to release the 2026 Construction Finance Pulse, an original, research-backed snapshot of what’s slowing job-cost visibility during execution, and what finance leaders are prioritizing next.

What this Pulse is (and what it isn’t)

This is not a “big annual report.” It’s a pulse: based on a survey of approximately 60 construction professionals across Canada and the U.S., fielded August - October 2025.

We also reference reputable industry sources (e.g., CFMA, FMI, Dodge) for context only. Every percentage in the Pulse comes from the Explorer + UserEvidence survey.

Why we did this

We created this piece to help elevate the conversation in construction finance. Because the pressure has shifted.

Even as volatility eases in some areas, expectations for financial leadership are rising. Owners and internal stakeholders want:

  • tighter cost control
  • faster variance explanation
  • clearer, earlier forecasting

And the gap we see most often isn’t effort. It’s timing. Finance teams can be disciplined, but still end up reacting because signals arrive after decisions are made.

What’s inside the 2026 Construction Finance Pulse

In a fast, scan-friendly format, the Pulse covers:

  • The 5 signals shaping construction finance in 2026
  • The biggest friction points delaying job-cost visibility
  • Where job-cost confidence breaks down during execution
  • A practical 90-day visibility toolkit to align finance + operations (Fix Map, Scorecard, and a 30/60/90 plan)

The most important takeaway

Speed has become a finance capability.

The teams that win in 2026 won’t be the ones who produce perfect numbers weeks later, they’ll be the ones who shorten the time between field activity and financial visibility, so decisions get made while there are still options.
