NewsOCTOBER 1, 2001EXPLORER SOFTWARE UNVEILS "EXPLORER ENGINEER" FOR THE POCKET PC VANCOUVER - Explorer Software Inc. has unveiled Explorer Engineer, an industry-specific Pocket PC application for engineers and construction contractors of any size. Explorer Engineer enables companies to streamline their workflow by capturing payroll, equipment usage, material costs, and hired equipment data at the source, and update their corporate systems without the re-keying of data. Explorer Engineer can then transfer the data to the company server using wireless Internet access. Data entry is done only once – digitally – which eliminates double entries and mistakes. Explorer Engineer comes in two versions designed for specific user groups: “Professional” – to be used by individual engineers that need to gather data on-site and conduct on-site project costing. “Enterprise” – to be used by companies that need to tie data collection on-site into their accounting solution back in the home office. This version can be implemented as an add-on to any Enterprise accounting system, including Explorer’s Explorer Enterprise Solution accounting software solution. “The heavy construction industry can benefit from this technology more than any other industry,” says Jim McFarlane, President & CEO of Explorer Software. “Users can now round-trip information to and from the field and office, thus maximizing efficient communications and streamlining data entry. Companies who embrace this technology will enhance their competitiveness and improve their margins at a time when every dollar counts.” Power users such as accounting types have typically been the focus of software companies in the past, but it is casual users like engineers and project managers that Explorer Software has found require information wherever they are and whenever they want. The fundamental design philosophy of Explorer Enterprise Solution construction accounting solution software is one-time data entry and unit price daily job costing. Explorer Software has released many revisions of this Microsoft SQL based product incorporating user suggestions, new modules, and integration tools for third party products, while strictly adhering to the design philosophy. This same design philosophy drives the Explorer Engineer application. “It is our key objective at Explorer Software to develop and provide products to the market that are geared to assisting individuals or companies in collecting and analyzing data in an efficient manner that reduces operating costs and improves project management for the user. When we do that, we improve the margins for our clients and improve their bottom line,” explains McFarlane. Explorer Software is a leading supplier of accounting solution software for heavy construction contractors and asphalt pavement producers with installations throughout Canada, the United States, Latin America, Malaysia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
